Our miniature Rocking Chair is designed to add that familiar, homely character to a 1:12 scale dollhouse, cottage, nursery, fireside scene or reading corner. It's the sort of piece that instantly suggests a story: someone has just put down their book, left their knitting beside the chair or wandered off to put the kettle on.
This is a digital SVG miniature furniture design for makers who enjoy creating their own dollhouse furniture. No finished physical chair is supplied.
Once constructed, there are countless ways to make the chair your own. Leave it with a natural wood effect, paint it in a traditional colour, distress it for a time-worn cottage look or create something much more colourful and eccentric.
Then comes the really enjoyable part: dressing it.
A tiny handmade cushion, folded blanket, piece of knitting, miniature book or basket beside the chair can completely change its personality. It could belong to a grandmother in a country cottage, sit beside the fire in a witch's house, become part of a Christmas scene or provide a quiet reading spot in a miniature library.
Although the design itself provides the structure, we particularly love seeing makers take our furniture files in directions we hadn't imagined. Different materials, colours, fabrics and finishing techniques can make two chairs cut from exactly the same design look completely unrelated.
It's also a lovely project for using tiny fabric remnants and scraps from other crafts — the pieces that are far too pretty to throw away but much too small for anything full-sized.
Create a chair with a story, place it somewhere cosy and decide who has just been sitting there.
